Some new acronyms for today:

  • HPDEB - high paid data entry bitch
  • FBI - fucked by incompetence

FBI is more of a cultural stamp applied to all events here. Here’s a relevant back-story.

I recently put together a response to a proposal from a client, and I figured the job would cost us about $7000 to complete, mostly because we had no experience with what the job required and we would have to learn a lot from scratch. I also figured it would cost an experienced company about $3-5000 to complete the project (given their developers wouldn’t be reinventing the wheel like we would have to).

So after explaining all this, Riddler sent it to the client with an estimated cost of $8000.

But what makes this interesting is that there was an additional component requiring a significant amount of manual data entry. I had priced that portion at approximately $10/hour (because that’s the kind of money you pay for hiring data-entry clerks). There would be approximately 5-10,000 hours of data entry required (we’d need a team of people to do it). So what did Riddler note the data entry costs as? $60/hour. That’s right, sixty-dollars an hour for data entry.

My response was, screw this current job – I’ll quit and become a data entry expert for $60 an hour right now. And hence, ‘high paid data entry bitch’ was born.

Surprisingly, no, we didn’t get the job.
