Good At It
Farva has been trying to install new 160gb hard drives into the backup machine. This apparently has become a difficult thing, and after a few hours comes to me.
- Farva:
- I think the motherboard is dead. The machine won’t boot and I don’t know why, I didn’t change anything, only the fan runs.
- HPDEB:
- The fan is running? Then the machine is on.
- Farva:
- No, it doesn’t boot, only the fan is on and the network LED is lit up, but the power switch doesn’t work.
- HPDEB:
- Fan=on, Led=on, Machine is turned on.
- Farva:
- I’ll check.
One hour later.
- Farva:
- It still doesn’t work.
I go check.
The power is definitely on. The machine is definitely turned on. The hard drive is DEFINITELY CONNECTED INCORRECTLY.
Pin 1 of the motherboard is connected to pin 40 of hard drive. Sigh. A quick switch and voila.. machine boots. Motherboard is no longer ‘dead’. All is well.
2 hours later.
- Farva:
- Every time I use DriveCopy to make a boot disk, it crashes.
So, I take a crack at this new problem.
- Try a different win2000 machine. Crashes.
- Read manual - Note: only works on win95/98
- Try on win98 - works fine.
At the end of the day…
- Farva:
- Ok it’s all done and I’ve got it working now.
No Farva, I think I got it working.
